Turkish Embassy in Tripoli

Ambassador's Message

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the web site of the Turkish Embassy in Libya.

It has been a distinct honor for me to assume my duty as Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Libya on 15 April 2015. The deep-rooted historical, cultural and human bonds constitute the strong basis of the brotherly and friendly relations between Turkey and Libya. Our bilateral relations have continuously developed since the independence of Libya in 1951. My colleagues and I are working for further improving Turkish-Libyan partnership in all fields.

Libya is unfortunately in a difficult phase of its transition process after 17 February Revolution. Turkey believes that solutions to the crisis in Libya could be found only through dialogue and, since the deterioration of the political and security situation in May 2014, has advocated a comprehensive political dialogue among all Libyan stakeholders in order to reach consensus on an agreement that would bring much needed peace, stability, security to the country. We therefore welcomed the Libyan Political Agreement and Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, participated in the signing ceremony of the Libyan Political Agreement held on 17 December 2015 in Skhirat, Morocco.

Our Embassy in Tripoli, evacuated in July 2014 due to the deterioration of the security situation, returned to the Libyan capital from Tunis on 30 January 2017. Embassy’s Consular Section provides services since 17 April 2017. Our General Consulate in Misrata is also operational. Our General Consulate in Benghazi was evacuated in June 2014 and remains closed.

As the security situation in Libya has begun to represent security risks for Turkey, the Memorandum of Understanding between Turkey and Libya on Mutual Abolition of Visas has been terminated by the Turkish Government. Since 24 September 2015, holders of Libyan ordinary passports have to obtain visa prior their visit to Turkey. The visitor who needs to obtain Turkish visa should first make an electronic application at www.visa.gov.tr and then present all required documents in person to the Turkish Mission of his/her choice (Turkish Embassy in Tripoli and General Consulate in Misrata) on the day of appointment.

We work closely with the Presidency Council and the Government of National Accord, and other Libyan institutions to develop our bilateral relations. We also continue to support Libyans in their endeavors to peacefully completing the transition process towards a democratic and civilian state. We wish peace, stability and prosperity for our Libyan sisters and brothers. Turkey will always stand by the brotherly Libyan people.
